As many long-time players know, Winter Express is one of the game’s most popular, recurring LTMs. Apex Legends’ Control LTM may hold that place in many hearts now, but without Control, it’s a good second. In Winter Express, players are able to choose Legends and certain kits to battle for control of a moving train against two other squads. It’s fun, chaotic, and a good way to signal that the holidays have come to the Apex Games.

Luckily, fans also know when to expect it. Respawn confirmed it will last for three weeks, taking place from December 6 to December 27. As far as when the update goes live, Respawn typically pushes updates to Apex Legends at 10am PT/12pm CT, so fans can expect the Winter Express update to take place then. This usually works like clockwork, with most seasonal launches going off without a hitch (though that can’t always be said with the new seasonal content in Apex Legends). Because this update will be much smaller, fans shouldn’t anticipate any real concerns. And once that update is live, fans will be able to dive into Winter Express once more.
It’ll be interesting to see how the new Apex Legends characters impact the LTM this year. Vantage’s sniper kit will no doubt make her great at watching for approaching enemies, as well as attacking or defending the tram from the hills, nearby buildings, and so on. Newcastle will likely have a palpable impact when it comes to pushing or defending one of the tram’s carts, but it’s Catalyst that may stand out the most. Her kit is perhaps most comparable to Wattson and Caustic, who have always dominated Winter Express. Her sticky traps, blinding wall, and more will likely shine here.
Of course, nothing is certain until fans begin diving in and figuring out what works with Winter Express. It’s possible there are a few changes to the map, but given how consistent it has been in past years, it’s unlikely. After all, why fix something about Apex Legends that’s not broken.
Apex Legends is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
