The current Apex Legends meta is dominated by a handful of Legends. Horizon is often picked for the ease with which she can get her squad to high ground, and Valkyrie will always have a place because of her ultimate’s ability to reposition everyone almost anywhere in the immediate vicinity. But Seer in particular has seen a high pick rate in both the lower and upper Ranked Leagues thanks to his overpowered abilities.

Information is the Name of The Game With Seer

Seer is a playable character introduced in Apex Legends’ tenth season, Emergence. Classified as a recon legend, Seer’s strength lies in his abilities to pinpoint nearby enemies’ locations through walls, as well as momentarily deny their skills and ability to recover. All of Seer’s abilities provide him with some sort of wallhack, which makes fighting against him troublesome.

The majority of the controversy surrounding Seer stems from his passive ability, Heart Seeker. By aiming down sights, Seer can hear and see the heartbeats of enemies up to 75 meters away. A circular visual display shows how far and in which direction an enemy currently is, while an audible heartbeat sensor lets Seer players know how much health their opponent has. Faster heartbeats mean an enemy has less health, which can prompt a Seer squad to push the offensive.

Considering the amount of information Heart Seeker provides, it’s no wonder some players are asking for it to have a cooldown meter like Valkyrie’s VTOL Jets passive. Heart Seeker makes it nearly impossible for players to rat in late-game rings, as a quick 360-degree look with the ability essentially gives Seer a free scan of the surrounding area. Players don’t even need to use Seer’s tactical ability, Focus of Attention, to give away enemies’ locations. They can probably just relay the information to their squadmates via text or voice chat.

Seer’s Skill and Recovery Denial

Focus of Attention builds upon the information gathered by Seer’s Heart Seeker passive. Once Seer finds an enemy behind a wall, they can create an area of effect blast that does several things to affected enemies. It immediately cancels revives and the use of healing items like Shield Cells and Med Kits. It also silences enemy abilities for 1.25 seconds, acting like a weaker version of Revenant’s Silence tactical ability. But most importantly, players hit by Focus of Attention have their positions revealed for eight full seconds.

There is so much that Seer can accomplish with Focus of Attention that it is understandable why it has a delay of 1.4 seconds before activation, and also a 30-second cooldown. The tactical ability isn’t as difficult to deal with as Heart Seeker because of its wind-up and cooldown, but it is still annoying to fight against. Entire fights can be won or lost depending on whether Seer’s Focus of Attention manages to hit enemies at the right time. Revives can be stopped for all Apex Legends players, offensive pushes can be halted, and knowing enemy locations will make them think twice about messing with a Seer.

Seer Exposes Enemies For All to See

Seer’s ultimate ability, Exhibit, is one of the best wallhack abilities in the game. By chucking the heart-shaped device from his chest onto the ground, Seer creates a large sphere of micro-drones that reveal enemies who run or shoot within it. Exhibit can be dissipated prematurely by destroying the heart-shaped device at its center, which is why Seer players often hide it in hard-to-reach areas. Failing to destroy the heart forces players to wait out the ability’s duration, which is a solid 30 seconds of passive intelligence.

While Exhibit doesn’t have audible cues like Heart Seeker, Seer can make up for the ultimate’s weaknesses with his other abilities. This makes it hard to escape Seer, which is why most players try to fight outside Exhibit’s area of influence. Yet even walking outside of Exhibit can leave players in the open, easy targets not just for the Seer’s squad, but for other squads in the vicinity. Walking out is even harder to do in late-game rings, as doing so could force players into the damage zone and require them to use their Heat Shields. To this extent, Exhibit can be used to pin enemies into a corner, where they can then be hit by grenades, gunfire, and otherLegend abilities.

With all the information Seer provides, it’s no wonder he is currently one of the most-picked Apex Legends. His kit far outclasses other recon Legends like Bloodhound and Crypto, and some of his abilities (Heart Seeker, in particular) provide benefits for free. It seems inevitable that Seer will get a bunch of nerfs next season, but as it currently stands, it looks as though players will have to wade through this Seer-dominated meta.
