Once upon a time, though, there was a ton of debate around this, as Respawn Entertainment was once preparing to remove tap strafing altogether. The mere thought of it had many players up in arms, and just as many were relieved when Respawn settled on tuning tap-strafing in Apex Legends instead of removing it outright. That’s why many were surprised to see tap strafing gone in Apex today, August 15.

The Removal of Tap Strafing Was Unintentional
If the discussion around removing tap strafing in Apex Legends was controversial, one could imagine the uproar with the community if it was removed without any prior warning. Indeed, this is what many thought happened today, as many within the community have vocalized their dislike of this removal. Everyone from Apex Legends streamers to casual players was caught off guard by this.
But luckily, it’s nothing like that. Many voices suggested it could be a bug, especially given how Apex Legends season 14 has had its fair share of bugs already, and Respawn Entertainment confirmed this earlier today. It revealed it was looking into this, which suggests it wasn’t intentional on the company’s part, and about two hours after, it was confirmed as fixed.
As of this writing, Apex Legends players should be able to tap strafe again or will be able to soon, with some likely needing to wait a little longer than others as the fix rolls out. Indeed, while this had the potential to cause a huge controversy within the community, especially if this bug lasted for days, the Apex Legends community was heard and Respawn was quick to fix this.
This little disruption proved to just be a blip on the radar, and with it out of the way, Apex Legends players can return to normal. Season 14 is well underway now, but many players are likely trying to figure out the new Apex Legends meta right now, a meta that would not be the same without tap strafing.
Apex Legends is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
