For each new season of Apex Legends Respawn has added a new weapon so far. The tradition started with Season 1 when the Havoc was introduced. Since then, players have expected and received a new weapon each season like the L-Star, the Charge Rifle, and most recently the Sentinel sniper. However, it looks like a new gun won’t be ready for Season 5, at least at launch.

In a tweet in response to a fan’s question, Producer of Respawn Entertainment Josh Medina confirmed the disappointing news; there will be no new weapon to start the season. This doesn’t mean that there will be no new gun at all, however, as leaks have proven that the fan-favorite Volt SMG may be headed to Season 5 of Apex Legends. But with Medina’s confirmation, it’s clear that the SMG will come to the game at a later point, perhaps mid-way through the new season.
The biggest addition of Season 5 is the newest Legend. Loba has unique translocating and thievery skills that will likely make her a go-to Legend in the games. Each season Respawn has added a new Legend to the mix, so that hasn’t changed at all here.
King’s Canyon is also getting a massive overhaul, including Skull Town being destroyed in Season 5. Fans have expected the tradition of map changes and or a new map, along with a brand new Legend every season. The other thing that has been a given so far has been a new weapon, but fans will have to wait a bit longer.
There is no news yet on when a new weapon will be added. The Volt SMG or CAR SMG are both options that seem likely, as they were favorite guns from Titanfall and a new SMG is needed in-game to mix things up. Within each season Respawn adds varying events to Apex Legends and those events often come with new content. It is likely that if a new weapon is added eventually to Season 5, it would come within an event.
Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
