The exact issue that’s causing problems in Apex Legends isn’t wholly clear. The bulk of users are reporting that while the game is at least opening, it never loads in entirely. All that these players see is the typical Apex Legends opening screen featuring the logo. Bloodhound, Wraith, and Gibraltar are seen, as well as a spinning loading circle that will go on forever.

However, other users report that the loading screen has completed for them only to result in an error. After the loading screen completes, a message is shown reading “Disconnect: PersistenceReadComplete for data storage “Respawn” failed.” Given that Respawn Entertainment is the developer, the “Respawn” error code seems to imply an obvious issue – no one can connect to their servers.

Given how early in the morning Apex Legends’ server issues began, 5:00 am where Respawn’s studio is located, Electronic Arts managed to post an update with relative quickness. It arrived around 5:30 am PT when the official EA Help social media account posted a statement

No followup information has yet been provided on the issue. This could mean the problem will take some to fix.

Some players have speculated that Respawn and EA may have been working out an issue tied to the recent Twitch Prime loot pack for Apex Legends. There were several issues related to the promo, including players being unable to link their EA accounts to Twitch Prime, and non-Twitch Prime subscribers being able to connect their account and receive the free skins and Apex Packs. Some users have reported logging in this morning and having their free purple Pathfinder Twitch skin has gone missing.

Whatever the issue and whatever its solution, EA and Respawn appear to be working on it. Odds are the solution is at hand and the Apex Legends servers will be back up and running at some point today.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
