Recently, there was a massive Apex Legends leaked that detailed the next map, several characters, guns, and far more. From this leak, many quickly pieced together that a new legend known as Newcastle was likely Bangalore’s brother. Apex Legends recently released a Bangalore quest, and the first silhouette of the new character is appearing as players return to Control Mode. In short, while it should be taken with a grain of salt and plenty can change—like Newcastle’s official name—it seems pretty clear who this new character is.

Apex Legends: Newcastle’s Leaked Abilities

Everything from Newcastle’s appearance and his connection to Bangalore point to him being the next legend, but what most players are going to want to know are his abilities in Apex Legends. In short, he seems like a more mobile defensive character, compared to Gibraltar at least. His abilities, as they stand, revolved around supporting, moving, and defending his allies. It should be noted that these are subject to change prior to Newcastle’s release, as time between the leak’s capture and its release could impact it.

As it stands, Newcastle’s passive allows him to drag allies while reviving them—under the protection of his revive shield. In this way, he seems very similar to Lifeline and many were upset to see her shield transferred to him, ultimately, but it’s a more balanced approach and could be a real game-changer for a team. He is slow and there are reasonable drawbacks, based on the leak. It’s more about getting out of comeback, backing away from the enemy, and recovering positionally.

Newcastle’s Leaked Abilities at a Glance

Passive – Retrieve the Wounded – Drag allies while reviving them, providing a revive shield Tactical – Mobile Shield – a controllable drone that creates a mobile energy shield Ultimate – Castle Wall – Create a fortified stronghold in a target area

His tactical is some combination of Crypto’s drone and Gibraltar’s arm shield, although much bigger. This defensive ability allows Newcastle to push or mow behind a rock-solid defense, once again allowing Newcastle to push without worrying about enemy fire or retreat in a similar fashion. If there’s one thing about Newcastle that’s clear, his character focuses a lot on positioning defensively.

Castle Wall, Newcastle’s Ultimate, seemingly summons a barricade capable of providing cover for three legends. It doesn’t seem too broken, as it’s essentially new cover, but depending on how Newcastle and his allies are set up, Newcastle could be up there with Caustic when it comes to shutting down an area.

Ultimately, while all signs point toward Newcastle’s tank-y inclusion, fans should wait and see how all of these Apex Legends season 12 teases pay off.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox One. A Mobile version is available in some locations.
