Most Apex Legends players may never have noticed, but weapons in the battle royale produce a huge muzzle flash. For quick-firing weapons like the R-99 or the R-301, this muzzle flash actually covers up a lot of the player’s vision. It’s even worse looking down the sights than it is hip-firing. That’s what Respawn wanted to fix, so that players’ vision would be better in the middle of a gunfight.

Redditor mnkymnk put together a video showcasing just how much of a difference there is between weapons pre and post-patch. The video makes sure to shoot in dark areas of the Apex Legends map so that the muzzle flash stands out. Virtually every gun has had its muzzle flash shrunk, altered, or moved so that it no longer blocks where the shooting player is looking.

Respawn didn’t go overboard with its changes, however. The muzzle flash on pretty much every weapon is still visually significant. An opponent will still notice your muzzle flash from far away, and the muzzle flash will still obscure a player’s view. In the case of the Havoc, it’s even gotten bigger and more frustrating to deal with, outside of where the player is specifically targeting with the weapon.

As noted, most players won’t even notice the change, as it’s just not the kind of thing most players pay attention to, though some players may think it’s bad. As one Redditor joked, players may notice their opponents’ aim getting suddenly better and blame it on the patch.

Obviously, that’s just one patch note from a big Apex Legends update. The patch also introduced the new Limited Time Mode “Deja Loot,” where loot isn’t randomized for the entire time the mode is available. There’s also a new piece of equipment named the Evo Shield that gets better as players do damage to opponents, and it’s all part of a larger System Override collection event that will last through March 17. Apex Legends continues to grow in 2020.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
