Crossplay, for the uninitiated, is the ability for players on different platforms to play a game together. So, with crossplay, someone on PlayStation 4 could play with a friend on Xbox One. Restrictions like exclusivity deals and hardware limitations have long kept crossplay from being achievable, but great strides are being made to make crossplay a standard, not an exception.

In a recent interview for Game Informer, Apex Legends developers Dusty Welch and Chad Grenier — general manager and game director, respectively — opened up about Respawn Entertainment’s attitude towards crossplay. They spoke about the difficulty of wanting to play Apex Legends together, but being on different systems. To that effect, Welch had this to say:

As Welch alluded to, crossplay is becoming an expectation from fans, especially in the battle royale genre. With news of Apex Legends’s developers wanting to see crossplay just as much, fans might be able to look forward to the feature’s implementation soon.

Apex Legends is currently available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
